Well here it is, folks. Britta and Matt’s wedding. I shouldn’t even have to write a blog post about this except to post the actual photos. They just speak for themselves. Britta and Matt are the kind of clients all photographers must dream about. Gorgeous on the outside isn’t the only thing – we have photographed gorgeous people before who have the personality of a cardboard box. Hence, not fun to shoot. Matt and Britta are super dry and hilarious, humble and goofy, and just plain happy together. All that adds up to them being one of our most favorite couples of all time. And it adds up to images like these!
Here’s a little bit about their story as told from Britta’s perspective: We actually met each other for the first time at a little pub in Winston called Finnegan's. Matt spotted me when I walked in and casually made his way over to introduce himself(This part of the story is way better when told in person so you can get the visual effect). I had just met his friend who had just asked if my name was Britta like the water filter (so original), so Matt thought it would be clever if he introduced himself by saying 'Hi. My name is Matt ... like the mat' while pretending that he was wiping his feet on a mat. He was determined to make me remember his name, and I must admit that his dry sense of humor got me! It's safe to say that I never forgot his name.
Matt proposed on January 17th, 2014 after we had been dating for three and a half years. I honestly had ZERO idea it was coming. I hadn't been feeling well the week of the proposal, so Matt was going to come over and cook dinner. He walked through the door, put down the food, and told me to turn around and close my eyes (he wasted NO time - coat still on and all). He said he got me a little something to help make me feel better (I still couldn't be more oblivious at this point). When he finally told me to turn around, I was expecting to see flowers or ice cream, but instead I found him on one knee with a ring box in hand. Matt was really going for the element of surprise, and he got EXACTLY what he wanted. My knees gave out and I collapsed to the ground in disbelief (there may have been a few tears). Everything that happened after that point was a blur. I was in absolute shock. So, after he said his sweet little speech that he had clearly practiced 100 times, I said YES of course!
And then, the wedding planning began! Here are a couple of Britta's bridal portraits that we shot at Duke Mansion.
The day of April 10, 2015 started off perfectly and ended even more perfectly. We met Britta and her bridesmaids downtown at Hayden Olivia in their bridal suite. Hands-down, this is the most amazing place for brides to get ready! Tons of room in a super cool space with a full concrete and stainless kitchen, crystal chandeliers, huge mirrors, fluffy couches...ok I will quit going on about the decor, but it really is amazing there. All the girls had their hair done by Mirror Bomb Studio and makeup by Erin Ashley.
Gratuitous selfie of Britta and her adorable bridesmaids!
While the ladies were getting their hair did, the gents were over at their hotel gearing up as well. Matt didn't seem nervous one little bit.
I love these two images of Matt and his groomsmen. It was super windy that morning, so we took advantage and got some kickass shots of them before they got in the shuttle to head to Rock Hill. For a guy who doesn't necessarily love to be in front of the camera, Matt kinda got into the spirit of things, dontcha think?
The wedding itself was at Brakefield at Riverwalk, which is a newer venue in the area. Carol Goodwin and her staff at Brakefield were an absolute joy to work with. Kelly Martin of Head Over Heels Weddings & Events helped Britta and Matt plan everything from start to finish, and the day went off without a single snag. We had heard about Kelly before, and when we learned that Britta had hired her, we were so excited to finally able to work with her as she has such a stellar reputation. Kelly even met with us ahead of time to ensure a seamless day for Britta and Matt, and for us as well! That almost never happens, and we credit Kelly with how impeccably the entire day turned out. We cannot recommend her highly enough.
Here are some detail shots of the day as it began to unfold:
Britta's dreamy gown was a Haley Paige from Hayden Olivia Bridal. Her shoes were none other than Badgley Mischka(until she changed into some comfier TOMS wedges, that is). Centerpieces, bouquets and altar flowers were all from Chelish Moore. Matt's own mom baked the gorgeous cake!
Britta's adorable mama had to hook our bride into her gown that had 4,389 buttons. It took like, four hours for this to occur without a complaint from anyone!
The Bridesmaids navy dresses were from Donna Morgan at Poffie Girls, one of the oldest bridal shops in the area. Men's formal wear was from Jos. A Bank. Here is a shot of the bridal party at Brakefield, which backs up to the Catawba River and Carolina Thread Trail. The view there is absolutely amazing!
And now it's time for the main event:
Just look at how these two! I have never seen another couple more excited to seal the deal. And the party was no different...their families and friends were just as excited to celebrate. Britta and her parents broke it down on the dance floor almost immediately:
And no one at this reception was shy in the least, much in part due to the incomparable band, the Dickens.
The evening concluded with a grand exit in one of Royal Limousine's Maseratis.
Britta and Matt, we can't thank you enough for allowing us to capture this incredible time in your lives. We can't see what else is in store for the two of you - no doubt it will be full of laughter and love. Cheers guys!
