The Wedding Planning Blues: Find Your Wedding Style

Do you have the wedding planning blues? Oh, no judgement here!  You only hear the happy side of wedding planning, everyone keeps all the stress and anxiety that comes along with it a deep, dark secret.  When you are wading through all those choices it's completely normal to find yourself overwhelmed and confused.  Even knowing where to start can be an obstacle.  Guest list!  Go with the guest list! Once you have that guest list pinned down you can move to venue selection.  Annnnnd...that's where so many come to a halt, right there at the beginning with hundreds of details to attend to.

If you are facing this scenario it might be a good idea to take a peak at yourself; give your style, your likes, your wants, you goals a once over and smash it all together to come up your wedding style. Knowing your own wedding style will allow you to work through the planning process with much more ease.  If you are looking for a modern, glamorous wedding chances are you won't be flaunting the ever so popular mason jar decor.  Same is true for those in love with a rustic, chic style; sequins and chrome aren't likely a match for you.  Narrowing down those choices just got easier by simply knowing yourself!

So, how do you figure out your wedding style?  We are suggesting a pretty simple and quick method and of course the internet is going to your best friend.

Take a wedding STyle quiz:

I personally think the easiest way to start out is to take a wedding style quiz like the one from Magnet Street.  One thing I love about this type of quiz is that it forces you to make a decision. Make sure not to hoover on one question for a long time; keep responses quick and genuine.  The biggest take away from this particular quiz are the key words you can use to describe your own wedding style. Prior to this quiz I wouldn't have known to call my style "classic."  Magnet Street also provides you with starting points that coordinate with your proposed style like "wedding colors," "wedding ideas" and even "wedding inspiration boards."

Pinterest inspiration Board

Do this only after you have fully committed to a wedding style.  Don't go searching wedding flowers, wedding colors and such all willy-nilly.  You will find yourself in the midst of a Pinterest melt down, I guarantee you.  Stick to the style descriptions provided through your wedding style quiz. You can also refer to some of the selections you made during the quiz.  For example I picked "bohemian" as my wedding dress style.  I LOVE pretty much anything and everything bohemian, it's not always something I would wear or decorate with, but its a great place to start looking.  This quiz, along with a Pinterest search, helped me identify that I really like bohemian flowers...And pinned to the wedding inspiration board!

Remember you aren't going to fit into one category.  Your style probably follows blurred lines, so make sure to not confine yourself to one descriptor.  Play around with a few styles you naturally hover towards and stick with them.  Another important part of this process is knowing when to quit.  We all know that Pinterst is the like the black hole of the internet, so make sure to not lose yourself in it and keep your goals and style in mind along the way.

Commit

Once you have your wedding inspiration board nailed down, commit to those selections.  Don't keep searching or even attempt to exhaust all the choices available.  It just isn't physically possible! Start seeking out vendors that can help you achieve your vision.  Be specific about what you want.  If some of your choices are not realistic or will completely break the budget (i.e. out of season flowers) then your vendors can guide you to find suitable replacements that will remain within your target style.  Most importantly, stay true to yourself.  Don't feel pressured by current trends, parents, or vendors to make particular selections.  After all, it is YOUR wedding day.

We felt extremely lucky to have Fusion shoot our wedding and engagement session. My wife and I had never been professionally photographed before and so we were probably a little awkward at first, but the Fusion team made us feel comfortable in a hurry.
