Courtney and Matt met via a mutual friend’s Facebook status. In their words:
We met via a mutual friend’s Facebook status. Kayla, a friend I went to school with and worked with after college, knew Matt because they had been in the same orientation type group at Central Michigan University. Kayla had broken up with her boyfriend of like five years and had made a status that she was thinking about moving, needing a change of scenery. Matt had only moved down to Charlotte less than a month prior and I had been living here for about a year and a half at that point. We both happened to comment on her post that she should move to Charlotte. Nothing came of the first post but probably not more than a week later we both found ourselves commenting on Kayla’s post again and this time interacting with each other. It was later that evening that Matt added me on Facebook. I had been on the couch in my apartment when I got the friend request and had this intuition that I needed to get up and go to my computer because he messaged me not long after. We chatted that evening and after I gave him my number he called and we set up a date for that Sunday.
Matt having pulled the “I’m new to the city, why don’t you show me some restaurants” card when we first started chatting asked me out for dinner. We went to Cowfish in South Park, it was a test because I absolutely love sushi so if he had said no to a sushi bar then it would have been over before it began, but he said yes (he wasn’t a sushi fan yet though). We had a great dinner, we talked and ate. It must have went well because he asked me to a Knights game later that week and now three years later we’re engaged.
At what point did you realize "you were the one"
Courtney - I don't really know if there was just that one moment, there's always those building moments. There were always those moments, little things
that made me go "I could marry him" - like when he even if we kind of fighting, he'd still go out of his way to make me happy. I think after we
had been living together, it was one of those realizations that I had come to the conclusion that we could get married.
Matt - There was never just that one moment but a collection of the past 3 years. If I had to narrow it down, it was fall of last year. We had been
living together for slightly over a year, we were making future plans, we were talking marriage and a life together and then it kind of all just
came together that I could marry this girl.
