10 Questions You Should Ask Your Wedding Photographer

Your wedding photographer is one of the most important vendors you will select to help capture your dream wedding. Your wedding photographer will most certainly spend the most time with you and at your wedding venue out of all the vendors you invest in.  AND your wedding photographer is the only vendor that will provide you with a product that will last for generations to follow.  This is why you MUST get to know the individual or team you will trust with documenting one of the most important days of your lives. To help you find the perfect match for you we have compiled a list of what we feel are the most essential questions to ask your wedding photographer.

1. What is your preferred wedding photography style?

Wedding photography is an expansive field, filled with so many different photography styles.  Making sure a photographer's style falls in line with your sought after style is of utmost importance.  Over at Fusion you will find we consistently produce what we refer to as "organic photography," fusing (pun 100% intended) traditional portraiture with contemporary photojournalism.  We want your images to be vivid, candid and powerful, while eliciting a relaxed and genuine feel.

2. How long have you been shooting weddings and how many have you shot?

IMPORTANT!  You are putting an immense amount of trust in your wedding photographer.  This day is your day and you need to feel secure in your choice so there is no additional stress added to you during this process.  Make sure your photographer is knowledgeable in this field and has ample experience.  Deevo has been at this for years.  He currently has 500+ weddings under his belt so we can ensure you are in very capable hands.

3. Do you have my wedding date available?

Yes, this one is a no-brainer, but you still have to ask. You don't want to waste a ton of time vetting a wedding photographer only to find out he or she isn't even available!

4. Do you backup your files?

We believe we can never be too careful when it comes to handling your wedding photos.  Unfortunately computers and hard drives fail.  You should be provided with the peace of mind that this isn't even something you should have to concern yourself with.  That's why we backup your files and then back them up again, and just for good measure we repeat. You need to know your images are in safe hands and that the right technology is being utilized to keep them safe.

5. Do you use natural light, artificial light or both?

Another important question to ask because it will give you an idea of how seamlessly your photographer can flow from outdoor to indoor pics.  It also offers more flexibility when it comes to photography style.  You will find Deevo loves to utilize both natural and artificial light in a multitude of ways, while you will find me running around with said artificial light on the end of a stick.

6. How will you help us relax while being photographed?

When you look at your wedding images you most certainly don't want to see a rigid and awkward bride and groom.  It is the photographer's job to ensure that you are relaxed and genuine in front of the camera.  We accomplish this partly by offering a complimentary engagement session with most of our wedding packages.  This is an opportunity for all of us to get to know one another and gain trust.  Deevo also has little tricks up his sleeve to make sure couples are able to be themselves whenever they are in front of the camera.  Trust me when I say he will find a way to make you completely at ease so that we can capture genuine and emotional photos.

7. Will you help me with my wedding timeline?

Wedding day timeline is so, so important for obvious reasons.  This is a crucial step we tackle together.  Even if you are working with a wedding consultant, it's a good idea to plan out when and where the various aspects of your photography will occur, as it will help make your day less stressful.

8. How much do your packages cost and what do they include? Is additional coverage an option?

You need to know what you are getting into and know that there aren't any hidden costs.  We offer multiple wedding collections in order to meet all of our clients needs.  We are able to customize these packages to suit your specific needs and always offer additional coverage should your wedding run a bit longer than expected.

9. What if it rains or snows?

This is a concern that always tops the list for most brides.  You need to know that your wedding photographer can tackle this scenario should it arise.  We actually wrote a blog recently addressing the issue of how to be prepared for a rainy wedding day.  A photographer should be stocked with a back up plan should the unexpected thunderstorm occur. Also know that snow and rain can offer a chance to capture unique and beautiful images on your big day. They are nothing to shy away from!

10. What if you get sick? Do you bring a second shooter?

Now that's a scary thought.  What do you do if your wedding photographer falls ill?  We haven't missed any of those 500+ weddings we mentioned above, knock on wood, but in the unlikely case that Deevo is sick we would turn to our second shooter to take on the role of lead photographer.  We also have a vast network of photographers in the Charlotte area that we are able to reach out to.

Paul and I could not be happier with our engagement and wedding pictures. Deevo and the Fusion team completely captured our vision and our personalities. Now we have the very difficult decision of picking which pictures to frame because they are all frame-worthy.
