Outdoor Summer Weddings: How to Beat The Heat

We have many brides come to us with dreams of a beautiful outdoor summer wedding and you know we are excited to capture those incredible wedding images. In North Carolina summer weddings mean elaborate floral designs, great food, radiant pops of color, and longer days of extreme heat and humidity.  Battling the heat as a bride, a groom or a guest just takes a little of preparation to be able to enjoy the romantic day of "I dos".  Follow our tips on how to beat the heat at your outdoor summer wedding to ensure your day is as magical as you envisioned.

How To Beat The Heat At Your Outdoor Summer Wedding

Light & Airy Attire

Bride and her bridesmaids hold their wedding bouquets sit on steps as the laugh.

Select breathable, light weight fabric like tulle or chiffon for you and your bridesmaids.  An airy wedding dress is not only beautiful, but it is also exceptionally practical in its ability to aid in keeping you cool. It is also important to stick with light, cool colors that won't attract more unnecessary heat. Make your guests aware that you have selected outside wedding venue so they can follow the same clothing guidelines.

Parasols

When the sun is beating down on you and your guests an easy and fun way to provide relief is through the use of parasols.  They help eliminate exposure to the sun's rays if you are hosting an outdoor wedding and outdoor reception.  On top of being useful, parasols are a creative addition to your wedding color palate. And of course this means your photographer can capture some amazing images.

Sport an Up-do

Newlyweds laugh as they pose for a picture for their wedding photographer. This one is an absolute must if you are going to stay cool in the extreme heat of Charlotte's summer months! Pull that hair up! Not only will getting your hair off your neck help keep you cool, but it will also help ensure your wedding hair style lasts to the wee hours of the night. The heat and humidity are not friends of flowing curls so securing your hair helps maintain those locks from wedding ceremony to wedding reception.

Open toed footwear

Skip the closed toed, formal heels and go right for the bohemian, strappy sandals to help get some relief from the summer heat.  Let those beautiful feet breathe!

Wedding Favors: Sunglasses & flip flops

The groom's sunglasses sit on a church pew as the bride and groom embrace for a kiss. You can have a lot of fun when it comes to selecting wedding favors for guests at your outdoor summer wedding.  Sunglasses are the perfect choice for ceremonies that are held in direct son. You want everyone, including your guests to have an unobstructed view of you as you walk down that aisle.  Sunglasses are a great way to make that happen. Flip flops are another great gift to help keep your guests cool as the night goes on.

Refreshments: Stay hydrated

Personalized water bottles for a outdoor summer weddingThis is as important for your guests as it is for you. Between the summer heat and alcohol people can easily become dehydrated.  Make sure to provide water to your guests so that everyone can stay hydrated from throughout the whole shindig.  If you are feeling the DIY craze you can even create personalized water bottles for your big day.

Potted Plants

Heat can really impact the appearance of flowers, especially cut flowers.  Remedy this issue by utilizing potted plants for center pieces and other wedding decor.  Not only will they look great through out the entire day, but is a perfect way to have a green wedding.

Rent a Tent

Rent a tent to provide everyone from bridal party to guests with instant shade!  If you are having an entirely outside ceremony and reception renting a tent is an absolute must.  The shade will over needed relief from the summer heat and a great place to relax in between dances.  Also, covers are a great "plan B" should the weather turn less than satisfactory on your wedding day.

Fans that double as programs

Personalized fans for wedding guests to help stay cool during the wedding ceremonyThese will be such a lifesaver for your wedding guests during your outside ceremony. Provide programs that double as fans so that guests have a gentle breeze as they watch you say "I do."

Ice cream and Popsicles

It has become common for weddings to include a cocktail hour for guests directly following the ceremony.  A inventive and quick way to ease the heat is to have ice cream or Popsicles on hand for your wedding guests along with your hors d'oeuvres. And this option won't break the bank!

Bug Spray

As we all know, with summer heat come summer bugs.  Help protect you, your wedding party and your guests from these tiny nuisances and provide bug spray at the wedding.  Trust me, everyone will be thank you for this one!

My husband and I had the pleasure of working with Fusion Photography for our wedding, and were so thrilled to have worked with Deevo and his team. He lent a hand to almost every aspect for our wedding, even borrowing a leaf blower to ensure we had a clean outdoor pavilion.
