Should You Go with a Nontraditional Wedding Dress?

A white gown: the traditional wedding dress. But if you’re a nontraditional type of bride, you may want a nontraditional wedding dress for the big day. Read on for some ideas of how you can be picture perfect for your Charlotte wedding photographer—while staying true to yourself.

1. Skip the Dress Altogether

You may want to skip the dress completely and go with a classy pant suit or even a casual jeans-and-top ensemble. This option is quite popular with lesbian weddings, but even if you aren’t in a lesbian relationship, you can opt to skip the skirted bottom and still find something absolutely beautiful (and comfortable!) to wear on your wedding day.

2. Choose Something Other Than White

White is the color of purity, and while many brides are opting for non-white shades (e.g., cream, eggshell, blush), you can take it a step further by going with a black, red, pink, blue—you name the color—wedding dress. It will certainly make your wedding photographs pop with color!

3. Opt for Something Other Than a Veil

Other than the white ballgown-style dress, the most traditional piece of a bride’s attire is the veil. One way you can show your unique style is to wear something other than a veil. Flower crowns, tiaras, jeweled headbands—the options are endless, which means you’ll be sure to find an alternative that perfectly fits your style and personality.

4. Go for Funky Cutouts

Modernize your wedding dress by choosing one that has crazy-funky cutouts in the midriff and back (like the dress pictured below). This is a subtle way to display your nontraditional side during your wedding, while still keeping some traditional aspects.

My husband and I had the pleasure of working with Fusion Photography for our wedding, and were so thrilled to have worked with Deevo and his team. He lent a hand to almost every aspect for our wedding, even borrowing a leaf blower to ensure we had a clean outdoor pavilion.
