I know I say this every time I photograph an engagement session, but this really was one of my fav sessions - ok engagement sessions in general are my favorite, but I DID truly enjoy myself with Kelly and Blair. Despite being hot and sticky (what a surprise, humidity in Charlotte wa wa) and rugged, we went adventuring though the woods, we found this awesome lookout rock, and there was an adorable and entertaining pooch- not to mention how awesome Kelly and Blair were. Kelly found us through her planner Angela with Planned Perfection, who we work with all the time. We had a lot of fun roaming through the trails and woods getting to know Kelly and Blair a little better.
Whenever a couple tells us they want to incorporate their pup in a photoshoot, we aren't going to lie, we're a little skeptical because animal portrait photography isn't really our specialty. But with Smokey- he had such a personality of his own and he wasn't at all camera shy, so it wasn't an issue at all. In fact he wanted to get in with Deevo and see the kinds of photos he was taking while he was taking them.
Kelly and Blair are very outdoorsy people, in fact Blair often goes on rock climbing excursions. We wanted to incorporate this aspect of their relationship into their engagement session. Latta Plantation proved to be just the place with all of their walking trails through the nature preserve. We mentioned Smokey wasn't camera shy, for this family photo he jumped right in and smiled. In a later photo, Deevo asked Kelly and Blair to lean in for a kiss. Smokey joined right in on that one too! After walking through the woods for a bit, Deevo remembered a path he had discovered with his kids that took us out to a lookout rock. It was a ways in, but well worth the hike- and Kelly and Blair were game! Once we made it out to the look out rock, Kelly and Blair waded out to a stand alone island where they could share a moment while watching the sunset. Meanwhile, Deevo jumped in the lake to get some good shots and Smokey chased after ripples as they crashed on the shore. We love this photo with Kelly and Blair looking opposite each other. Although it did take a little styling, it looks completely casual and really fits the couple. We adored hanging out at Latta Plantation with Kelly and Blair and can't wait until their wedding later this year.
