Austin is one of Deevo's oldest friends in Charlotte and they have a lot of history together, so when Austin got married and he asked Deevo to photograph he and Ali, it was a huge honor. For their engagement session, we took them to the Fusion Lake house on Lake Norman to photograph Ali and Austin. Since Deevo had not yet met Ali, he was super excited to see who had captured Austin's heart.
On the drive up to the lake, it started raining, but we were not deterred. After a quick forecast check on our trusty Weather app, we knew the rain would stop. As anyone who has lived in Charlotte for a while can attest, we have some amazing sunsets after the rain - especially on the lake.
The best thing about shooting old friends is that as a photographer, you don't have to break the comfort barrier. For most couples this is the reason we offer the engagement session complimentary. Most couples haven't had professional photography taken of them (Ali and Austin hadn't either) so it usually takes about 20 minutes or more for them to get comfortable in front of the camera. Austin was ready to go and brought with him a cooler of drinks to share (sweet!). Ali brought a couple of outfits and asked our advice before getting changed. We're always willing to make suggestions on attire!
We love shooting at the Lake House, it's an incredible yet comfortable setting for just about everyone. It's also where we shoot a lot of our boudoir sessions for just that reason. The light in the woods right next to the Lake house was absolutely
amazing with the sun reflecting off Lake Norman through the trees.
The dock is always a favorite location to snap some cute photos. We love this sweet and intimate image. After shooting around the house we headed out on the boat to do some photos in a canoe. Alli and Austin were decently coordinated with the oars, and while we thought it might be difficult to keep them upright on a one person kayak, they more than handled it with ease. We wish the clouds in the background had broken up a little more to let some of the amazing pink sunset light into the sky plane, but we have to admit, this kiss on a canoe is a pretty sick shot. Thanks you two for an absolutely amazing time during your session! We will most definitely have to do it again.
