There is this energy about Tonya and Michael that is captivating and energizing. The way they look at each other, is inspiring and it comes across in their photos. We initially started at the Blake Hotel which is now called the Sheraton Hotel; because at the time our studio was under renovation. During the consult, the AC crashed at the hotel and I could not stop sweating - it was pretty embarrassing. I thought for sure I scared them off and to boot they didn't return calls or emails for several weeks, so I though I would never see Tonya and Michael again. But then Tonya called, excused their lack of response on Michael's work travel schedule and we scheduled a date to photograph their engagement session.
Tonya and Michael initially met online and their first date was at Applebee's. They had been talking for a few weeks on the phone when Michael was on the
road and asked Tonya if she would meet him when he got in. Michael had just gotten off of work... and was not exactly what Tonya was expecting. Later
it turned out that Michael did it on purpose to see if Tonya would mind, and clearly she did not. She still thought he was very handsome and he thought
right away that she was incredibly beautiful. The two have been inseparable ever since.
Around Charlotte, North Carolina you can find Tonya and Michael at Bentley's on 27, the Epicenter or hanging outdoors on Lake Wylie. However if you ask them what their favorite things to do together are, they will tell you anything that involves being with each other. You will rarely catch one without the other.
About a year ago, Michael fell ill and Tonya stuck by his side his entire time. Around the same time Tonya experienced health issues that Michael did not fail at comforting and easing for her. However, this turned out to have a real silver lining. The couple new shortly after that they were ready to be engaged after dealing with the hard times!
One day Michael sent Tonya a picture of Applebees and told her to come grab a drink, which is where the two originally met. When Tonya walked to the bar,
Michael informed her that he no longer cared to be just her boyfriend and dropped to one knee, pulled out a tiny box and asked the big question, "Will
you marry me?".
Clearly, Tonya was more than happy to say yes.
The couple will marry in the spring, at Pier in New Jersey, Tonya's home state. For their engagement photography session, they both wanted something
"naturey" and "outdoors" - something that reflected their down to earth and laid back personalities. Frank Liske Park in Concord NC, offers all of
that and more. Congratulations, love birds!
