Charlotte North Carolina is a magnificent destination for photography. Full of vibrant spots and diverse topography. The range from city dwellings to urban diversity and sprawling country-sides, beaches, and mountains provide engagement and wedding photographers opportunities everywhere to create some stunning photographs with even better backdrops.
I photograph a lot of engagement sessions all around Charlotte, often, I find myself returning to some of the same locations because of their beauty, I have compiled some of my favorites and listed them below. The list is by no means exhaustive and I am always discovering new locations in and around Charlotte and cities all around this gorgeous state of ours.
Location #1 Fisher Farms in Davidson North Carolina.
I might regret listing this location as it is mostly untouched and I rarely see many humans, let alone photographers here, but since I am frequently asked "where a particular photo was taken" I figure id let the cat out the bag.
Becky and Josh: Davidson NC
Location #2: Latta Plantation Huntersville North Carolina
Of all the locations around Charlotte, Latta holds a near and dear spot in my heart. Its 750 acres of woods, forests, lake and rolling hillsides provide not only a sanctuary for wildlife but a private respite for me and my little clan when we just want to get away. I have spent an entire day at Latta hiking and relaxing, reading and meditating and not seen a single human.
I started taking photos here back in 2008. I have photographed bride and grooms, engagement, maternity, boudoir, seniors, everything. If you love wildlife, sunsets, water, forests, and nature, Latta Plantation is the spot for you.

Location #3: Lake Norman North Carolina
If you never been on the lake, I doubt you have been in Charlotte for very long - so now you know about it, get yo ass out there! Here is some history of the lake, mostly made up, but some facts are probably true. It's mad made some time in the 1960's I think. It's the largest man-made lake in the US - 529 miles in circumference. It is mostly owned by Duke Energy and the blessed few that can afford to have a multi-million dollar home on the water. It is used for fishing, recreation, boating, partying, sunsets and my photography. All the time, year-round! I happen to be well connected to a benevolent friend that allows me to use her home on the lake for boudoir photography, engagement photography and of course everything photography in between. It's one of my favorite spots to photograph.

Location #4 The Black, Asheville North Carolina
Ok if there is a God, then he lives on the Black in Asheville NC year-round. And since I believe there is a GOD, I am pretty sure I meet him at least once a month because I visit this stunning, magnificent, ridiculous, stupendous... ok you get the point, location on the reg to take wedding, engagement, photos. I even talked Kyla and Ryan into photographing their entire wedding and scrapping the traditional wedding and doing a destination wedding photography up on the peak. Bad ass right?
Kyla and Ryan: Black Balsam Asheville NC
Location #5 Fourth Ward Park Uptown Charlotte NC
OK, so it doesn't offer blistering views of the rising sun, or enigmatic backdrops of the setting sun, or rolling hills and pastures, but what Fourth Ward offers that none of the previous other spots can is the city! Yes, Uptown Charlotte - which is fast becoming a little metropolis of fascinating backdrops for photography. A lot of my clients come to me wanting the city, but also want the vibe of a park, Fourth Ward enables us to capture both. It's a quaint little park nestled right in the middle of the city. Flowers, trees, fountains, think picnincs in the aprk with an urban vibe.
Erin and Dominic: Fourth Ward Park Uptown Charlotte NC
Location #6: First Ward Park Uptown Charlotte NC
People in Charlotte always be wanting their city backdrops. I know of every nook and cranny in the city to find the best uptown charlotte cityscapes. First Ward park at night is dazzling. Beware, photographers, sometimes the Park Rangers drop in on you from outta nowhere to check yo park pass permit to take photos - respect the law. This spot has everything you need for a complete engagement session. Fountains, walkways, grassy knolls, flowers and trees and bees - AND the city views, at night.
Quezia and Philemon: First Ward Park Uptown Charlotte NC
Location #7: Uptown Charlotte NC (everywhere)
Charlotte center city is easily one of the best places to take photos in our region. It's so much fun, it holds the last three spots on my list. There are opportunities everywhere for a seasoned and amateur alike to take great wedding, engagement, fashion, or boudoir photography. You want dark and dingy urban infrastructure, it has it. You want cool architecture, you'll find it. You want broken down and industrial - look everywhere.
Location #8: Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens, Gastonia NC
The last but certainly not least location for engagement photography in Charlotte is Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens, You want outdoor scenery this spot has it all. Gardens, massive waterfalls, lakefront, woods, I can spend hours here taking photos. Literally hours. One time the park ranger kicked me because we overstayed past closing and he had to track through the woods to let us know they had been closed for two hours - yikes sorry?
