Ballantyne Country Club Wedding: Lindsey+Derrick

Lindsey and Derrick first met at Whiskey River in Uptown Charlotte just prior to the ACC Championship Basketball game (Lindsey went to FSU).  Derrick saw Lindsey having fun with her friends and commented how cute she was to his brother.  Derrick says he "patiently waited until the time was right to approach" Lindsey and admits that it just happened to coincide with the "completion of a couple rounds". :) Their initial conversation was brief but effective, because Lindsey agreed to give Derrick her phone number.

Lindsey's first impression of Derrick: "He was adorable but I am hard to get to know at first especially if you are a guy walking up to me I don't know. He seemed funny, witty, and cute so I figured...let's see what happens here."  Derrick's first impression of Lindsey: "She was classy in an edgy type of way (Similar to me), and she has a strong personality that you need you’re “A” game to keep up with conversation wise.

They parted ways and agreed to catch up another time.

For their first date, they went to Del Friscos for happy hour after Lindsey vetoed Icehouse (go figure Derrick!) "just to see how it would go" as they both put it.  The connection was instant and quickly evolved to dinner after at Brio's - they both agreed the night was perfect.

I love this next part of their story, because since I have gotten to know them both very well over the last year, I can totally see this happening in the way they both describe.  I asked them how they both knew they wanted to marry and here are there unedited responses. Derrick: "We were watching Anchor Man 2 at the Epicenter. I remember the moment I knew, I looked at the side of her face (her bone structure and complexion were amazing) and had a warming sensation that came over my body. I didn’t mean to, but whispered I love you."  He said bone structure. :)  Lindsey: "He actually whispered he loved me later that night when he thought I was sleeping. I was awake and since we only knew each other about 3 weeks I responded "no you don't."  It took me a little longer because he hadn't broken through my brick wall. I would say by the end of January, beginning of February I left down my wall for the first time and I am so glad that I did!"

So I first met Lindsey at the Vu in Uptown.  Thanks to the new light rail construction, we were homeless photographers so my good friend Ty let us use the 50th floor of the Vu to hold our consult.  Lindsey arrived only with her parents (whom I adore).  I would like to say that they were eagerly impressed with only me and my photography, but who am I kidding, we were meeting on the top floor of the tallest building in Charlotte with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the city, they were mesmerized and hypnotically signed the contract on the spot.

I did not get the chance to meet Derrick until the engagement session - which took place in Highlands NC at Dry Falls in the Nantahala Mountains.  It was a road trip and as anyone can attest that has ever taken a photographic road trip with me... there are lots of stops along the way, right Linds and D?  We trespassed onto several locations for photos that turned out amazing and then following the waterfalls, agreed to have dinner together for our first date as photographer and client.  We fell in love instantly and the rest is history :)

I am always grateful to have the opportunity to work with such amazing clients, it's not always that I become close friends with them.  Lindsey and Derrick, I loved getting to know you both and I am very much looking forward to OUR futures together.  Love Deevo

It was a bright and sunny day in Charlotte, North Carolina. The couple prepared at The Ballantyne Hotel and Lodge in Charlotte North Carolina and had lots of sparking accoutrements on hand…

Derrick has a very laid back and humorous personality, he and his friends decided to jump on the beds at the Ballantyne Resort for a spin-off photograph typical of the Bride and her Matron of honor...

Lindsey and Derrick opted to see each other before the ceremony, which created lots of time for wedding photos…here Derrick waits to see his bride…

Phillip was clearly excited to see his future wife, Lindsey was a radiant bride.  The beauty of seeing each other beforehand is the bride and groom can enjoy a private moment on their wedding day to simply be and enjoy…

Cheers to Lindsey and Derrick and may you always find what you seek in each other during this life... I will end this post on a favorite light-hearted love quotation from Atticus the poet and writer that for personal reasons just seems to fit these two love-birds.

"I love her because she steals my socks.  I love her because when I find her in them they never match, and because they are too big, and the grey part for the heels sits far too high but she doesn't notice.  I love her because she wears them to sleep and one always falls off and she wakes up in the night and can never find it, and her foot is cold.  That's why I love her."
