If Fusion were to pick one of our favorite wedding venue locations at which to photograph weddings, the list would without a doubt include the Mint Museum Uptown Charlotte. The spare, modern space lends itself to some truly beautiful photography backdrops. As part of the Levine Center of the Arts cultural campus, the Mint Museum Uptown offers a number of incredible spaces for rent that can host any sized event. From a more intimate gathering of up to 64 to a huge 400+ atrium party, the spaces that the Mint offers are very flexible, and each provides something unique.
The iconic Mint Museum Uptown at night provides amazing photographic opportunities. We photographed Katie and Brian's elegant wedding last year and it was truly an example of how well the staff at the Mint can accommodate your every whim for your wedding day. The Mint Museum Uptown has a number of vendor partners available for you to use to make sure that your event goes off without a hitch. For instance, Katie and Brian chose to use Something Classic Catering through the Mint, for a seamless in-house feeling for their day. The Mint Museum has an entire list of vendor partners for you to choose from...from flowers to cakes to limos, you have choices so you will not be pigeonholed into one particular vendor, but you are virtually guaranteed a cohesive wedding day timeline.
The Mint Museum can even offer a la carte package additions that you may not have even thought of. Who wouldn't trust a professionally curated museum to preserve their wedding dress? And how about a digital screen of bridal photos displayed at your reception as a museum-style modern backdrop? They will even allow us to photograph you for your bridal portraits prior to your wedding day free of location rental charge if you book your event with the Mint.
Can we talk about these windows for a moment? We have yet to see a cooler grand ballroom-style venue that is practically a blank slate for you to create THE most awesome reception area. The multiple story windows in the Robert Haywood Morrison Atrium are so dramatic that you just don't need anything else for decor. Currently, the museum has a four-story textile piece by artist Sheila Hicks in the atrium to provide all the drama you need. Our couple Kelly and Blair fit in room for a full staged rock band School of Rock AND Split Second Sound's DJ setup, with plenty of space left for a seated dinner and dance floor where the absolute party of the year occurred!
The other options for reception space are just as unique and beautiful if the Atrium feels too overpowering for the venue you are looking for, then the Mint offers the Grand Room and Trustees Terrace on the 5th floor. Our own bride and groom Emily and Andrew chose it for their wedding, and it turned out perfectly. Still the gorgeous windows and cityscape view, and as a bonus, this outdoor terrace:
See? So many cool spots for photo opps...only Fusion can turn a spare receptionist desk into a portrait-worthy setting!
You can't forget about the grand staircase out front of the Mint, either. This photo of Kelly and Blair's wedding party turned out so iconic-looking to us because of the placement and spacing of each individual in the portrait. We owe a lot of the feel of this photo simply to the architecture of the steps! Of course we can't write about the Mint Museum without further mentioning the artwork itself.
Along with booking your event, the museum's private collection and special exhibition galleries can be opened up after hours for your guests to enjoy during your event. Deevo and I toured just a handful of the galleries this past Wednesday and the collection is utterly magnificent. From the notorious Chihuly chandelier, to tiny sculptures constructed of intravenous needles(of all things!), to sgraffito pottery and intricate inlaid and lathe-turned woodwork...the list of incredible pieces goes on and on.
Todd Murphy, Special Events Director of the Mint Museum Uptown, meticulously oversees everything with a smile and fervor second to none.[/caption] A very special mention needs to go to Special Events Manager Todd Murphy, who will be your right-hand man when you book your wedding at the Mint Uptown. He will coordinate everything with your vendors so you won't have to worry about a thing on your wedding day. As a vendor who has worked directly with him on a number of occasions, we can without a doubt say that he is responsible for much of the success of the events we have been a part of at the Mint Uptown. If your wedding is in his hands, have no fear. It will be impeccable!
