Summer is in full force, and while that means sunny skies and time spent lounging by the pool, it also means one other big thing: heat. And if you have
a photoshoot coming up, then you’ll surely want some tips on how to beat the summer heat so your photos turn out the best they possibly can.
This one might seem obvious, but if you’re preoccupied with what you’re going to wear and where the photoshoot is going to take place, you could easily
forget to pack some water for the day. Be sure that you don’t forget to bring along enough water for the hours-long shoot, and that you bring enough
for everyone in your party (especially important if you’re having family portraits done).
Bring Some Ice Packs or a Fan
Don’t underestimate the power of a few ice packs and portable, battery-powered fans. These bad boys will surely come in handy between shots, especially
if your shoot is largely taking place outdoors. When you have a moment to take a break, seek out a shady spot, put an ice pack on the back of your
neck, and aim that fan right at your face. Ahhh—relief!
Avoid the Midday Sun
If at all possible, schedule your photoshoot to take place in the morning or late afternoon hours. Because that midday sun can be a killer! Talk to your
photographer about timing; he or she will likely want to avoid the midday sun as well since it can cause harsh shadows that aren’t ideal for photo-taking.
Jump in and Cool Off
Since you know your shoot will occur during the summertime—and the sun’s going to be beating down on you—consider choosing a location that
has a lake or pool so you can jump on in and cool off. Water shoots can be a blast, and being in the water will definitely give you a much-needed break
from the summer humidity and heat.
Wear Loose, Comfy, Breathable Clothes
Wardrobe is always a large consideration during any type of photoshoot, but it’s especially important when your shoot is a summertime one. Opt for clothing that’s loose and comfortable, and preferably made of a breathable fabric such as cotton.
These five tips are just a few ways to fight off the summer heat during your summertime photoshoot. Trust us—by following these tips, you’ll have a much more comfortable shoot, which will translate to more beautiful images.
